ISA Donates Time and Money to Haiti Relief
It’s been more than four weeks since the disastrous earthquake
in Haiti. At a catastrophic magnitude of 7.1 on the Richter
Scale, the poorest country of the West Hemisphere was badly
jolted with the earthquake and more than 52 aftershocks were
felt by 24 January. As the news got broadcasted around the
world, various countries offered help and aid immediately.
Numerous organizations have initiated fundraising efforts for
Haiti since the disaster and continue to reach out for help.
The
government of Canada pledged “up
to
$50 million to match Canadians' donations
to charities aiding relief efforts in
earthquake-ravaged Haiti” on January 14.
For
information on CIDA's donation matching program, here's
an FAQ provided by the government.
Now, more than ever, your help is needed to help families in
Haiti and let them know they are not alone in this emergency. To
help those affected by the earthquake, here's a
list of organizations accepting
donations.

McAfee Operation Aurora Outbreak
On January 12, McAfee Labs identified a zero-day vulnerability
in Microsoft Internet Explorer that was used as an entry point
for “Operation Aurora” to exploit Google and a rapidly-growing
list of other companies. Microsoft has issued a security
bulletin and McAfee is working closely with them on this matter.
“Operation Aurora” was a coordinated attack which included a
piece of computer code that exploits a vulnerability in Internet
Explorer to gain access to computer systems. This connection was
used to steal company intellectual property and, according to
Google, additionally gain access to user accounts.

Encryption
Do you know
what information is on your USB device if it were to go missing?
In fairly recent news: Ontario's privacy
commissioner is investigating the loss of medical records of
thousands of people after a nurse misplaced an unencrypted USB
key.
Mistakes
happen, as we tell our children everyday, but what can be done
to avoid it in the future? In the case of data protection – it
starts with "Encryption". If you do not have a solid data
protection plan in place, now is the time to keep your company
out of the news.
